View Of The Screen
Lucy Cade
Lucy Cade considers the role of the screen through painting. Working from film stills and her own photos taken from screens, she seeks to capture the solarised and polarised world suggested by cinema: a place not only of cultural stereotypes but also of personal memory and nostalgia.
Lucy Cade is a painter who makes work about the matrixial realm – the feminine and motherhood. Pictorially, her work has strong currents of painterly cinematic imagery, but physically, can manifest not only as ‘easel’ painting, but also, more recently, as installation or sculpture. She has shown extensively in the UK in the last few years. She was shortlisted for Jackson’s Painting Prize 2022 and the Alpine Fellowship 2021. Following the Turps Correspondence Course, she is now undertaking her MFA at City & Guilds of London Art School.
