Fragmented Realities
Juan Laureano
Fragmented Realities features a collection of paintings reflecting the freedom to create life and spaces. Nature and the domestic environment are juxtaposed to create a singular space. Colours and component parts come together to create realities and identities that are conflicting and unconventional but are nonetheless unique.
The energetic colours that characterise my work resemble the vibrant Amazonia and reflect Brazilian influences. My work also depicts cubist influences from artists like Pablo Picasso, as a main Spanish influence in my work. Common themes in my work include race and nature. The figure of the woman occupies a central place in my paintings, representing women as key figures in society, their power and their fight and struggle. I draw inspiration from the immediate and domestic environment. I use painting as a medium of self-expression and as a means to build a connection between my inner and outer world.
