Bob Brewer

Big Yellow Circle is a collection bustling with effervescent affection for the chaos of people that falls into moments of peace and solitude in attempts to find balance with the natural. Bob is an artist that comes from a stop motion background and now works in rich colours and backgrounds to tell stories through the visceral medium of expressionist painting, whilst maintaining a cartoon style. They are inspired by storytelling and poetry, and the exaggerations of colour and expressions of shape are happily exploited through the work. Truth and memories in crowds or alone, swim together with fictional distortions to create visual fables. There is a lot of optimism in the work and playfulness that is important to Bob. There is decadence, but also simply sitting, breathing and stillness. Emotion is nothing to be afraid of and is celebrated in a childishly simple way. An undercurrent of existential acceptance ripples beneath the surface of a fiery party, or the shadows cast across a face from the tendrils of a green leafy plant.
